Overview
Ares had quite a bad reputation in most Myths. Although he was known for his strength, he was also known as a coward as he ran away from many battles.
Ares and AphroditeOne popular myth that does not put Ares in a good light is a myth where he is tricked by Hephaestus. Hephaestus lays a trap, and catches Ares and Aphrodite together in a net. They are humiliated as it is seen by all the gods on Olympus
Otis And EphialtesAnother Myth that does not portray Ares well is the Myth of ares and the twin giants. Ares went to go fight Otis and Ephialtes, and was then captured and kept in a jar for a lunar year (13 months). He was eventually rescued by Hermes, but not without losing his pride.

Ares in the Trojan WarAres supported the Trojans in the Trojan war, mostly because he wanted to support Aphrodite. Ares was leading them in battle when Diomedes, with the guiding hand of Athena, stabbed Ares. He fell with the cry "as great as nine thousand men", and later retreated (Homer, Iliad 5. 699).
Ares Vs HerculesHercules, a son of Zeus, was on his way to the Oracle of delphi when he confronted and killed a son of Ares. When Ares found out he was livid, he went to fight Hercules. When he faced Hercules, Athena made sure Hercules could not be injured. Hercules, now winning, wounded Ares so badly he ran away.
